University of Essex expands offering to Sri Lanka with NIBM

The partnership will see psychology programs delivered at NIBM in collaboration with the university, allowing Sri Lankan students to gain a global perspective and propel their careers.

A special signing ceremony at the university’s Colchester Campus attended by Essex’s vice-chancellor, Maria Fasli and NIBM director general, D. M. A. Kulasooriya helped launch the partnership.

Fasli spoke of a shared ambition between the partners, one that looks “to empower students in Sri Lanka with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel – whether they choose to contribute locally, explore opportunities globally, or forge their own unique paths”.

“While we continue to welcome Sri Lankan students to our UK campuses, we recognise that education should not be limited by physical mobility. Instead, it should be designed to reach and empower students wherever they are,” said Fasli.

“This signing represents a bold step forward – one that strengthens educational ties, fosters global collaboration, and creates opportunities that transcend borders.”

NIBM will offer students access to top-tier education with international recognition through the partnership, “bridging the gap between Sri Lanka and global education standards”, a statement from the university read.

For over 57 years, NIBM has offered quality education while focusing on global collaborations by promoting transnational education (TNE) opportunities through giving students access to academic programs degrees, and qualifications from international institutions while studying locally.

This tradition continues with the new partnership with Essex – one of the most international universities in the world.

“The University of Essex’s reputation for excellence in both teaching and research makes it an ideal partner for NIBM, which aims to provide Sri Lankan students with access to world-class education opportunities,” said Kulasooriya.
